ManneqART announces winners
Sculptural awards will be displayed around county through mid-November
ManneqART, the international arts and education nonprofit based in Howard County, has announced the winners of its 2017 national Sculptural Artworks Competition, including Best Overall and Best in each of four theme categories. There were 54 artworks submitted this year by 48 artists from around the United States.
ManneqART sculptures will be on display from now until mid-November, in multiple locations throughout the county.
On Nov. 5, the ManneqART Masquerade and Annual Awards Gala will be held at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. Awards will be presented at the gala and a live floor show of the artworks on models will take place.
The “ManneqART Master Award” winner is Stacy Levy of Owings Mills, who captures a $3,000 prize for her artwork titled “Vortex Rider.” Other winners are: ¦ Eco Award of $1,000 — Karen Brand of Halethorpe and Gerri Hanus of Laurel for “Fleur D’Art.”
¦ Aviation Award of $1,000 —Sharon Garry of Catonsville for “Blue Bird of Happiness.”
¦ Ocean Award of $1,000 — Doreen Reynolds of Highland for “The Agony & the Ecxta-Sea.”
¦ Energy Award of $1,000 — Liz Ayerle of Philadelphia, Pa., for “Spectator.”
In addition to the theme awards, the following special awards were announced: ¦ Sandy Spring Museum “Inner Light”
Award of $2,000 — Maddy Halbach and Lynne Spector of Glenwood for “Glacius Angelies.” ¦ Innolect Corp. “Growing Leaders”
Award of $500 — Adrianna Morgan of Silver Spring for “Dual Citizenship.”
¦ Queen’s Ink Award of $500 — Judith Bird of Port Townsend, Wash., for “Imagined Africa.”
This year’s Emerging Artist Award winners were: ¦ Imagine Artwear Award for Excellence in Fiber Arts: College Level, $500 — Myra Briley, Texas Women’s University, Denton, Texas, for “The Mummy;” High School Level, $300 — Amanda O’Shaughnessy, Reservoir High School, Fulton, for “Evolving Nest;” and Middle School Level, $200 — Blake Savoy, Oakland Mills Middle School, Columbia, for “Terror of the Triangle.” kvjones@tronc.com
