Braves: Rookie OF Mallex Smith seemed likely to miss at least six weeks after his left thumb was broken when hit by a pitch Sunday against the Mets. Smith will go on the DL, and the most likely replacement appeared to be veteran utility player Emilio Bonifacio, who was not in Triple-A Gwinnett's lineup. The Braves haven't given a timetable for Smith's return.

Cubs: CF Dexter Fowler was placed on the 15-day DL with a right hamstring injury. Fowler was hurt while running out a grounder to third Saturday. Fowler, who re-signed in late February, is batting .290 in 64 games this year and was leading the NL OF voting for the All-Star Game.

Diamondbacks: Shelby Miller threw 62/3 sharp innings, Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and the Diamondbacks beat the reeling Phillies 3-1 to complete a four-game sweep. Miller (2-6) allowed one run and five hits, striking out five in his first start since May 24. He had been on the DL with a sprained right index finger. Jeremy Hellickson (4-6) allowed three runs and four hits before recording an out.

Dodgers: IF Chris Taylor was acquired from the Mariners for RHP prospect Zach Lee. Taylor, 25, has played in 86 major-league games but spent almost all of this season with Triple-A Tacoma. He hit .312 with three homers and 12 stolen bases with the Rainiers, spending time at shortstop, second base and third base.

Nationals: The team agreed to terms with 23 of its 40 draft picks, including first-rounder Carter Kieboom. Kieboom, a Georgia high school shortstop, will start his pro career with the Gulf Coast League Nationals in Viera, Fla. The only unsigned top-10-round picks were No. 29 RHP Dane Dunning and fourth-rounder OF Nick Banks.

Tigers: RHP Dustin Molleken's contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo. Molleken, 31, has never pitched in the major leagues. He's 1-3 with a 3.76 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 23 games for the Mud Hens. He has 34 strikeouts in 381/3 innings.

Extra innings: The Nationals scratched RHP Stephen Strasburg (upper back strain), spoiling his duel with Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw. The Phillies went 0-6 on their first winless homestand of six or more games since Sept. 21-27, 1964, when they went 0-7.
