Holiday keys UCLA upset of UK
Aaron Holiday capped a 20-point performance with a pivotal driving scoop and two free throws in the final 33 seconds, and UCLA upset No. 7 Kentucky 83-75 on Saturday at the CBS Classic in New Orleans.
Kris Wilkes also scored 20 points, and Thomas Welsh added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Bruins (9-3), who won for the seventh time in 15 meetings between these historical college basketball powerhouses.
Hamidou Diallo scored 18 points, Wenyen Gabriel added a season-high 16 and Kevin Knox had 15 for the Wildcats (9-2), who lost for the first time in eight games.
Kentucky went 6 of 21 from 3-point range and shot 42.6 percent overall.
A.J. Harris and Sidy N’Dir both scored 10 points for the Aggies (11-2).
Dejan Vasiljevic had 15 points and Bruce Brown scored 13 for the Hurricanes (10-1), who shot 34 percent overall and 11 percent from 3-point range.
Cameron Johnson, a graduate transfer from Pittsburgh, scored 13 points in just his second game for North Carolina (11-2), which hit 13 3-pointers. Jalek Felton scored 12 points on four 3s and Luke Maye grabbed 10 rebounds.
Keita Bates-Diop had 26 points — one point shy of his career high — for Ohio State (10-4). C.J. Jackson scored the Buckeyes’ first 11 points before finishing the game with 19.
The fifth annual event will pit North Carolina against Kentucky and Ohio State against UCLA. Chicago also hosted the first Classic in 2014.
