The cargo ship Dali, which has been in U.S. waters since knocking down Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, began a voyage from Norfolk, Virginia, to China on Thursday. After being freed from the bridge wreckage and refloated, the ship returned to the Port of Baltimore before sailing, under tugboat assist, to Norfolk in June. There, all of its thousands of containers were removed. On Thursday, three tugboats and two Coast Guard boats helped the ship out of Norfolk’s harbor. It then began sailing, under its own power, toward China, where it will undergo extensive repairs before likely readying for a return to service. Meanwhile, private and public entities — including from the U.S. Department of Justice — continue to file lawsuits against the Singaporean owner and manager of the ship. See related story on Page 9.
