Their story: The two were set up on a date on July 11, 2013, by a friend of Sara's who was also a friend of Danny's mother.

The proposal: Danny proposed to Sara on May 2 last year, while Baltimore was under a state of emergency because of the unrest that broke out after the death of Freddie Gray.

The day was actually gorgeous and peaceful, Sara said.

“Danny took me for a beautiful walk along the harbor. His first attempt to propose was interrupted by my mother calling to check in on oursafety,” Sara recalled. “Forty minutes and three goodbyes later, she was finally off the phone.”

Danny tried to pop the question a second time but was disrupted by a group of women who loudly told the couple how cute the two of them were together and asked them why they weren't married.

Danny finally found a place to propose — in private — along the water, where he dropped to one knee and asked Sara to marry him. Sara said she was speechless and broke into tears.

Later that night, Sara made Danny ask her again in their living room, so this time she could say the word “Yes.”
