Braves: C A.J. Pierzynski was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Pierzynski, 39, wouldn't say after Saturday night's 10-inning victory over the Mets if he has played his last game. Pierzynski got plenty of uncustomary attention after a routine game, including cigars being passed out and a ball he hit for a single was authenticated. He was not at the ballpark Sunday, but his jersey and belongings had not been removed from his locker.

Rays: LF Corey Dickerson's two-run homer stopped the Yankees' seven-game winning streak with a 4-2 victory. 2B Logan Forsythe and SS Brad Miller also went deep for the last-place Rays, who had dropped three straight and six of seven. The Yankees fell two games back of the Orioles for the second AL wild card spot.

Angels: RHP Matt Shoemaker, who was readmitted to the hospital Saturday after feeling pressure in the area where he was hit in the head by a line drive a week ago, was discharged after an additional CT scan. He had emergency brain surgery Sept. 4 to relieve swelling.

Dodgers: Manager Dave Roberts explained his reasoning behind removing LHP Rich Hill from his bid for a perfect game. Roberts said Hill, who has been battling blisters since joining the Dodgers Aug. 1, was showing signs of developing one. “If it was earlier in the year, I would have let him go back out there,” Roberts said. “To get to the point where we're at, with 21/2 weeks left in the season, it just wasn't worth the risk. Richie is throwing as good as anyone in all of baseball. To take the chance to lose him for the postseason is irresponsible.”

Athletics: DH Billy Butler was released despite the A's still owing him $10 million for next season. Butler went on the concussion disabled list last month after a clubhouse altercation with teammate 3B Danny Valencia. “It was time to move on,” A's general manager David Forst said. “The at-bats just weren't there.”

Extra innings: Red Sox slugger David Ortiz hit his 535th career homer, moving past Jimmie Foxx into sole possession of 18th place for all-time home runs. He also increased his RBI total to 110, the most by a player age 40 or above since Dave Winfield had 108 for the Blue Jays in 1992. … Indians RHP Corey Kluber struck out 10 batters and scattered four hits to earn his 16th win of the season during a 7-1 win over the Twins. … The Giants completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks behind LHP Matt Moore's 11 strikeouts in a 5-3 victory.
