Reed returns an interception 64 yards for a touchdown for the Ravens (12-5), who'll advance to the AFC title game before losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jan. 4, 1985: David Robinson, Navy's 6-foot-11 All-America center, gets 21 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high 14 blocked shots as the visiting Midshipmen (6-3) trounce UNC Wilmington, 76-61.

Jan. 1, 1953: The Bullets end a nine-game NBA losing streak with an 83-81 win over the Milwaukee Hawks. Three late free throws by Ray Lumpp, who played on the 1948 U.S. gold-medal-winning Olympic team, the win for visiting Baltimore (6-21).

Jan. 2, 1942: In a classic match on the pro tennis tour, Don Budge defeats Bobby Riggs, 7-5, 6-3, at the Coliseum. Budge was the first player to win tennis' Grand Slam in 1938; Riggs was the world's No. 1 men's amateur player in 1939.

Jan. 1, 1938:A record basketball crowd in the city — more than 5,000 fans — sees Ohio State rout the University of Baltimore, 53-37, at the 5th Regiment Armory. Mike Pellino scores 12 points for the Bees.

Jan. 6, 1923: Trailing 20-3 at halftime, Loyola College rallies past Gallaudet, 33-25, at the 4th Regiment Armory. The Greyhounds get 16 points from center Jack Cummings, who makes four of 15 free throws.

Jan. 7, 1911: The entire Navy football team, accompanied by several players' female friends, goes raccoon hunting near Round Bay, “where the striped-tail nocturnal critters are said to be found abundantly,” according to The Sun.

Jan. 3, 1887: Illuminated for the first time by 10 newfangled electric lights, the lake at Patterson Park is open for skating at night. “The shadows of the skaters, outlined like moving silhouettes on the ice by the electric rays, lent at additional interest to the merry forms gliding over the lake,” The Sun reports.
