No. 10 Severn took control in the second half to defeat No. 12 Archbishop Spalding, 8-3, in boys lacrosse Saturday night.

The game was the nightcap of the PNC Invitational at Loyola Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex.

Dylan Gregar scored three goals — all in the decisive second half — for the Admirals (2-1, 1-0 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference).

Collin Ervin added two goals and Jake Lilly, Joel Mandish and Henry Rentz each scored once for the Admirals. Nate Hutcheson made nine saves for Severn.

Niklas McFarland, Russell Melendez and Dan Shay scored for Spalding (4-2, 0-1).

Chaminade (N.Y.) 11, No. 2 McDonogh 6: The Eagles (3-2) rallied to within a goal twice, but could get no closer to the Flyers (1-0) at Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pa.

Chaminade opened with a 3-0 run, but McDonogh rallied with goals by Jack Sweeney and Alex Pitts for a 3-2 score with 10:38 left. The Flyers answered with a 3-0 run. The Eagles would get within a goal with 9:21 left in the game when Dane Swanson scored his second goal for a 7-6 score. Again, the Flyers responded with another run, 4-0.

Swanson and Liam Powderly each had two goals and Sweeney had a goal and two assists for McDonogh.

Girls lacrosse

No. 10 Roland Park 12, No. 3 Notre Dame Prep 4: Chelsea Kovinsky scored five goals to lead the Reds past the Blazers at the PNC Invitational at Loyola Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday night.

Shannon Smith and Kiki Shaw each scored twice and Amber Bustard made nine saves for Roland Park (4-2, 1-2 Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference).

Nancy Halleron scored twice for NDP (2-2, 0-2 IAAM A).

Garrison Forest 14, Montclair State (N.J.) 13: Kennedy Lynch scored the game-winner on an eight-meter shot with one second left to lift the host Grizzlies (1-2) over the Mounties (0-1-1). Garrison Forest trailed 9-5 at halftime and Kaylan Silva had the game-tying goal with two minutes left for the Grizzlies.

St. Mary’s 13, Mount de Sales 11: Whitney Albert had four goals to lead the Saints (1-2, 1-1 IAAM A Conference) past the Sailors (1-3, 0-3). St. Mary’s had lost its previous two games.

Softball

Northeast 11, Old Mill 0: Mallorie Hetzel had a double, a triple, a home run, scored two runs and drove in five runs and Jenna Matulonis tossed a five-inning one-hitter as the Eagles opened the season with the win over the Patriots. Makayla Belanger hit a home run and Madison Schelfe added a single and a triple, scored two runs and had two RBIs.
