Good fashion doesn’t always have to cost an arm and a leg.

Take Aubrey Anthony, 24, for example. The Hanover resident demonstrated that with a little thought, you can dress to impress for less.

As a surgical assistant and treatment plan coordinator at Columbia-based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Anthony says she typically wears scrubs at work. She welcomed the opportunity to showcase her fashionable skills at the Taste of Howard County; her office had extra tickets.

“I got the chance to dress up,” she says. “I feel beautiful, empowered. I look like I’m ready to have a good time.”

This night, Anthony had one goal in mind.

“I wanted to slay,” she says with a laugh. “And this looks cute together. And this is what I had in my closet.”

And when building her closet, Anthony takes an economical approach.

“I don’t care where you get it from, you can make anything look good,” she says. “When I want to find something affordable, I go to Express and Forever 21. If I like something a lot and it’s really expensive, I go to my dad.”

Her ensemble: White strapless jumpsuit from Express. Block-heeled strappy sandals from Express. Louis Vuitton clutch, a gift from her father. David Yurman necklace from her father. And black motto jacket from Forever 21.
