A National Guard soldier has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a man he found inside a home with the mother of his child.

Natravien Landry, 25, of Abbeville, La., an Army National Guard soldier assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower, is charged with one count of murder, according to Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

Steinberg said Landry visited the residence of a woman with whom he shares a child in post housing at Fort Eisenhower. Landry is accused of assaulting and shooting the man who was in the home with the woman before leaving Fort Eisenhower.

He was arrested about three hours later in Atlanta during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, according to a release. Deputies said they found a 9mm pistol during the stop.

The U.S. Marshals Service took Landry into custody and booked him into the Lincoln County Jail to await further court proceedings.

Fort Eisenhower wrote on Facebook that a lockdown was issued “due to an active shooter.”

“Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family, and assistance will be available to anyone impacted by this tragedy,” officials said. “The safety of our residents and personnel remains our primary concern.”

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, in cooperation with state and federal partners, is leading the investigation.
