An international film festival in the western Czech resort city of Karlovy Vary kicked off with an honor for U.S. actor and director Viggo Mortensen.

Mortensen, a three-time nominee for the Academy Award for best actor, received the Festival President’s Award at Friday’s opening ceremony and will present the second movie he directed, “The Dead Don’t Hurt.”

A special guest of the fest, Oscar-winning director and producer Steven Soderbergh, will present two movies, “Kafka” and “Mr Kneff,” in a retrospective called “The Wish to Be a Red Indian: Kafka and Cinema.”

The retrospective will feature movie adaptations of books by Franz Kafka to mark the 100th anniversary since the author’s death.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs through July 6. The grand jury, which includes Australian Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush, will consider 12 movies for the top prize, the Crystal Globe.

Rapper likely to avoid charges: Killer Mike is expected to avoid charges over a physical altercation that led to his arrest at the Grammys earlier this year after the rapper recently completed community service.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office said in a statement Thursday that Mike “successfully completed the office’s hearing process, including a community service requirement that was imposed.” The rapper was escorted in handcuffs by police at Crypto.com Arena in February and detained on suspicion of a misdemeanor offense.

Court documents show Mike was never charged over the incident. Mike said an “over-zealous” security guard contributed to the altercation that occurred in the joyous moments after he won three awards at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony. It was his first Grammy in more than two decades.

In some instances, Los Angeles city prosecutors can opt to resolve an incident without filing misdemeanor charges if a person completes certain conditions.

Gomez bringing magic back: Emmy-nominated actor and singer and Rare Beauty founder Selena Gomez will return as Alex Russo for the “Wizards of Waverly Place” reboot, which is now in preproduction.

Gomez appeared Wednesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” guest-hosted by her “Only Murders in the Building” co-star Martin Short, and talked about how much the show means to her.

“I will be in the first episode, I’m executive producing it, and it brings me to tears because that is where I started, and to honor it in this way has truly been a blast, and I just can’t wait to release it,” she said.

While there is no official release date yet, Disney confirmed that the show, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” will premiere later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+.
