Yankees: RHP Luis Severino left the series opener against the White Sox after 22/3 innings because of a mild right triceps strain. The 22-year-old allowed Jimmy Rollins' two-run homer into the right-field second deck and then threw ball one to Jose Abreu. Yankees manager Joe Girardi went to the mound with head athletic trainer Steve Donohue, and Severino walked to the dugout. Nick Goody came on in relief. Severino was placed on the 15-day disabled list after the game, in which he fell to 0-6. Despite throwing a fastball up to 98 mph, he allowed seven hits and four walks as his ERA rose to 7.46.

The 30-year-old right-hander made two appearances in spring training and impressed with his array of pitches, including a fastball of nearly 100 mph. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rangers sent OF Delino DeShields to Triple-A Round Rock.
