The No. 4 C. Milton Wright boys soccer team nearly pulled off the upset of nationally ranked Salesianum, Del., on Wednesday in Fountain Green.

The Mustangs (9-2-2) battled back from a pair of two-goal deficits to force overtime, but the Sallies (10-1) converted off a corner kick in the final minute of a second overtime to win, 4-3.

The winning goal came with 1:04 left on the clock. Junior midfielder Ben Strine took the kick and as the ball approached the goal, senior forward Bryce Wallace got just enough of his head on it to flick it past Mustangs goalie Ryan Miller.

“On the last goal, I came out and my defender, guess he didn’t hear me. I came out, tried to catch it and it just went off his head, went off my hand, wasn’t expecting the deflection,” Miller said.

No. 8 Eastern Tech 3, Patapsco 0: Drew Holt made five saves in his ninth shutout of the season to lead the Mavericks (13-1) past the Patriots (10-3) at CCBC-Dundalk.

No. 9 Loyola Blakefield 3, St. Paul’s 0: Alex Reid scored twice to lead the host Dons (10-6-1, 7-6 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) past the Crusaders (2-11-2, 2-11-1).

No. 10 Mount Hebron 2, Wilde Lake 0: Two first-half goals by Trevor Namie and Vince Broccolino helped the host Vikings (9-2-2, 7-2-2 Howard County) shut out the Wildecats (4-5-2, 6-6-2).

Severn 2, Gerstell Academy 1: Nate Gauthier had a goal and an assist to help the host Admirals (7-10, 6-8 MIAA B Conference) beat the Falcons (6-10, 6-8).

Girls soccer

No. 3 River Hill 4, Reservoir 0: The host Hawks (11-0, 11-2) outshot the Gators (5-51, 8-5-1), 18-6, and put 13 shots on goal. River Hill scored twice in the first half and twice after intermission, each goal coming from a different player than the last. The Hawks claimed the Howard County title, their first since 2014.

No. 7 Archbishop Spalding 3, Bryn Mawr 2: Margot Lawn had two goals to lead the Cavaliers (9-5, 6-4 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the host Mawrtians (2-9-1, 1-8-1). Bryn Mawr outscored Spalding, 2-1, in the second half.

No. 10 McDonogh 2, Roland Park 0: Macky Wolf and Alexa Smelkinson scored to lead the host Eagles (10-3, 7-3 IAAM A Conference) past the Reds (7-7-1, 3-6-1).

Patterson Mill 4, Perry Hall 3, OT: Sarah McCollum scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the host Huskies (8-7) beat the Gators (8-4) in overtime. The loss ended an eight-game winning streak by Perry Hall.

Girls volleyball

Western Tech d. Catonsville, 3-0: The visiting Wolverines (8-3) swept host Catonsville (7-7) on the Comets senior night, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.

“We’ve never beat Catonsville,” said Western Tech coach Eric Jett, who was with the program for three years as an assistant before he took over.
