Patterson Mill tops Bel Air, 4-3, in baseball
Reid's RBI single gives Huskies fifth walk-off win
Jordan Reid's RBI single gave Patterson Mill a 4-3 walk-off win over visiting Bel Air Wednesday in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division baseball game.
“This is crazy. This is our fifth walk-off finish in our season,” Huskies coach Matt Roseland said. “I don't think we've had five in our entire program history.”
Eric Raley's two-run triple capped a three-run third inning for the Huskies (6-1 league, 7-3 overall).
Bel Air (4-2, 6-2) scored run in the fourth and two in the fifth on Andrew Cotton's two-out single to tie the score at 3.
The Huskies' seventh inning began with a leadoff single from Nick Cress, in his only plate appearance. Thomas Kragh sacrificed Cress to second and he moved to third when Cooper Mattheu's grounder to short was booted. An intentional walk to Kyle Goudy loaded the bases with one out, setting up Reid's winning hit.
Jake Sheesley pitched a complete game for the win, scattering six hits, walking three and striking out five.
“Coach told me before the game, if I hit my spots, really pump the heat in there and pound the zone, that I'd have the chance to win the game,” Sheesley said. “Luckily, late in the game, I found it deep within to pump some out, threw some late curveballs to finish some batters off.”
Michael Yetter (five hits, five strikeouts) took the loss, pitching into the seventh before leaving after giving up the single to Cress. Jack Jenkens pitched a third of an inning for Bel Air.
At bat, Bowling went 3-for-4 with a double.
