A woman’s body was found Friday morning on a bulkhead in Herald Harbor, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

As of 11:30 a.m., the body had not been recovered or identified, and officers were still on the scene, said department spokesperson Justin Mulcahy. Police said they were using equipment in the water to try and remove and secure the woman.

Mulcahy said police officials arrived at the 600 block of North Riverside Drive at 7:38 a.m., after someone on a nearby dock saw the body and called 911.

A bulkhead is an upright wall that can be used to mitigate shoreline erosion or secure docks.

The area police are surveying sits on a tip of land separating the Severn River from the mouth of Valentine Creek. It was not immediately clear which body of water the woman was found in.

Police are awaiting an examination to determine how the woman died.
