A Bethesda-based medical assistant and a Baltimore-raised toymaker have been cast to appear in Season 38 of the reality show “Survivor.”

Julia Carter, 24, of Bethesda, and Julie Rosenberg, 46, who grew up in Baltimore and now lives in New York, were listed among the 18 “castaways” set to compete this season, “Edge of Extinction,” according to a CBS network news release.

The group is split into two tribes who will compete for $1 million.

In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight Canada,” Rosenberg said she is a “superfan” who has been trying to get on the show for 17 years.

“I know I have the strength to do this game and now I’m going to prove it,” Rosenberg said.

Carter described herself in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight Canada” as being the first in her family to graduate college.

After she finishes filming “Survivor,” she plans to start medical school — a decision motivated by her father’s death from heart disease when she was 7 years old, she said.

“Survivor for me, as a kid, was an escape I used to watch on the couch and think how awesome those people were and it often gave me hope in times where I felt hopeless,” Carter said.

The season is scheduled to premiere Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
