Jairus Lyles hit four 3-pointers and scored 24 points Wednesday night as host UMBC cruised to a 90-68 win over Delaware State.

The Retrievers (3-0) have won three straight to open the season.

Lyles made nine of his 14 shots and pulled down seven rebounds. K.J. Maura hit three 3s and finished with 19 points and six assists for UMBC, which was 10-of-21 shooting from long range. Nolan Gerrity added 13 points and 10 boards for the Retrievers.

UMBC used a 25-6 scoring stretch that turned an 18-17 lead into a 43-23 advantage at the break. Gerrity started the outburst with a layup, followed by a 3-pointer and by Lyles Maura's layup.

Delaware State (1-2) never seriously threatened in the second half.

DeAndre Haywood scored 20 points to lead the Hornets. DeVaughn Mallory had 13 points.

Long Island-Brooklyn 65, Loyola Maryland 61: Andrew Kostecka made a 3-pointer with two minutes left to tie the game at 59, but the host Blackbirds (2-0) made six free throws down the stretch to beat the Greyhounds (1-2).

Jarred Jones (John Carroll) made a jumper with 2:34 left in regulation and after a steal by Kostecka on the defensive end for Loyola (1-2), James Fives pulled down an offensive rebound to set up Kostecka's tying shot.

Coastal Carolina 89, Coppin State 59: Tre' Thomas (Baltimore City Community College) had a game-high 23 points, but the visiting Eagles (0-3) fell to the Chanticleers (1-2).

Minnesota 80, Mount St. Mary's 56: The host Golden Gophers (3-0) outscored the Mount (0-3) 43-27 in the second half.

Junior Robinson led Mount St. Mary's with 16 points. Jordan Murphy had 18 points for Minneosta.
