Greyhounds top No. 7 Virginia women; Towson romps, 13-2
Elli Kluegel (4 goals) scored what proved to be the game-winner with 1:21 left in regulation as No. 12 Loyola Maryland upset No. 7 Virginia, 19-18, in women’s lacrosse Thursday night.
Avery Shoemaker’s fourth goal brought the visiting Cavaliers (5-2) within one with 51 seconds left.
The win marked the third straight over a Top 20 opponent in the past week by the host Greyhounds (4-2).
Virginia trailed by four goals before outscoring Loyola, 12-9, in the second half.
Towson opened with a 9-0 run and cruised.
The last time Towson held its opponent scoreless in a half was on April 15, 2016 when it led host Hofstra 2-0 after the first half.
