City line speed camera sends hostile message
What kind of message does it send to put a speed camera on the northbound Jones Falls Expressway just above Smith Avenue at the city line where everyone naturally speeds up a little as the character of the roadway and the more open surroundings lend themselves to moving a little faster (“Speed cameras relocated on Jones Falls Expressway; enforcement begins Monday,” March 23)?
To some, it might be interpreted as: “Thanks for coming and for your $40 but think twice about coming back.” Or it might be: “You’re really not welcome here.” Or maybe even: “You’re not wanted.”
