Champion sends Loyola to OT victory

Chuck Champion scored 19 points and host Loyola Maryland outscored Colgate 11-4 in overtime for a 79-72 victory in men’s basketball on Saturday.
It was Loyola’s third overtime win in its past four games.
Champion had four points and Jaylin Andrews (Boys’ Latin) had two steals and made four free throws in the extra period for the Greyhounds (8-13, 4-4 Patriot League).
Dana Batt scored a season-high 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting to lead Colgate (12-9, 4-4).
UMBC 59, New Hampshire 51: K.J. Jackson scored 21 points, Joe Sherburne added 14 and the visiting Retrievers (13-9, 5-2 America East) beat the Wildcats (3-16, 1-5). The win was the fourth straight for UMBC.
Hofstra 84, Towson 61: Justin Wright-Foreman scored 25 points as visiting Pride (19-3, 9-0 Colonial Athletic Association) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 16 games with a rout over Tigers (7-15, 3-6).
Holy Cross 69, Navy 64: Jacob Grandison and Austin Butler scored 22 points apiece and the host Crusaders (12-9, 3-5 Patriot League) beat the Mids (6-13, 3-5).
Morgan State 77, Bethune-Cookman 71: Kyson Rawls had 21 points to lead the host Bears (8-12, 3-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) over the Wildcats (8-12, 3-3). The win ended a two-game losing streak.
Florida A&M 72, Coppin State 70: Justin Ravenel scored 28 points with five 3-pointers and the visiting Rattlers (7-14, 4-2 MEAC) survived a late rally to beat the Eagles (3-19, 3-4).
Norfolk State 88, UMES 60: The host Spartans (12-10, 7-0 MEAC) scored 48 points in the first half and rolled past the Hawks (3-19, 1-6).
St. Francis Brooklyn 74, Mt. St. Mary’s 67: The host Mount (5-16, 2-6 Northeast Conference) fell to the Terriers (13-8, 5-3), their third loss of in the past five games.
Women
UMBC 64, New Hampshire 62: Te’yJah Oliver made the game-winning layup with 4.5 seconds left to lift the host Retrievers (8-12, 6-1 America East) over the Wildcats (41-6, 1-6). The win ended a seven-game losing streak. UMBC’s Tyler Moore had a career high 27 points, scoring 16 in the first quarter.
Coppin State 73, Florida A&M 53: Brooke Fields (Institute of Notre Dame) had a game-high 25 points to lead the host Eagles (2-17, 2-5 MEAC) past the Rattlers (3-15, 1-5).
UMES 59, Norfolk State 43: Dominique Walker (Harford CC) had a game-high 16 points to lead the visiting Hawks (10-10, 6-1 MEAC) past the Spartans (11-9, 6-1).
Bethune-Cookman 73, Morgan State 69, OT: The visiting Wildcats (10-8, 3-3 MEAC) outscored the Bears (5-16, 3-4), 10-6, in overtime to win. Adre’onia Coleman (St. Frances) had 17 points for Morgan State.
Colgate 73, Loyola Maryland 64, OT: The host Raiders (8-10, 4-4 Patriot) used a 13-4 run in overtime to beat the Greyhounds (2-17, 1-7). Isabella Therien had 27 points for Loyola.
