Evan Boozer's blocked punt and fumble recovery in the end zone started a 20-6 run in the second quarter by host Loyola Blakefield, and the Dons ground out a 48-32 victory over Edmondson at their Salute to Service game Saturday at Hargaden Field.

Both teams scored 14 points in the first quarter. The Red Storm (4-6) demonstrated the explosiveness of its kick-return team in the first half with two touchdowns scored. Roland Green had a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 6:17 left in the first quarter, and Shamar Barnes had a 65-yard return for a touchdown with 7:18 left in the second quarter. The Dons (5-5) stayed composed and held a 21-20 lead even after Barnes' score.

The Dons had five scores in a row over the second and third quarters. Azende Smith got his third touchdown of the game, a 15-yard run with 6:41 left in the game, to start the run. (He added a fourth, breaking out for a 52-yard touchdown run with 10:48 left in the third quarter.) Kicker Tommy McLaughlin made two field goals to close out the scoring in the first half, a 20-yarder with 2:32 left and a 15-yarder with five seconds left for a 34-20 Loyola lead at halftime.

The Dons defense got better as the game went along, led by cornerback Kenny Lewis, who broke up several passes and had some key tackles to prevent breakout runs by Edmondson. The Loyola offense put up 14 points in the third quarter, and the defense gave up 12 to the Red Storm in the fourth.

Edmondson put together a six-play, 69-yard drive in the first quarter. Teon Gardner capped the drive with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Green with 9:27 left in the quarter. Gardner dashed in for the 2-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.
