Dodgers: A 77-inch-tall bronze statue of Jackie Robinson will be unveiled Saturday at Dodger Stadium on the 70th anniversary of his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The statue, which weighs 700 pounds and is secured with a 150-pound steel rod, stands in the left-field reserve plaza. It depicts Robinson as a rookie in 1947 sliding into home plate.

Indians: 2B Jason Kipnis is using social media to help him find a discontinued piece of protective gear. He explained in an Instagram post Thursday that he lost his favorite white Easton shin guard, the model he has worn since college. In his post, which has received more than 5,000 likes, Kipnis said he will give tickets or memorabilia to anyone fulfilling his request.

Rays: Starting this weekend, the Rays will take a couple of air filters on the road with them to limit germs. They began using them Friday night in Boston, where the flu hampered the Red Sox last week. The Rays placed high-tech units — shaped about the size of a toaster oven and similar to the system found in the home clubhouse at Tropicana Field — in the trainer’s room and players’ lounge at Fenway Park.

Mariners: Among the food items being sold at Mariners games this season is an Oaxacan delicacy called chapulines, which are grasshoppers toasted in a chili-lime salt. The Mariners ran out of them during their first three home games and reportedly had to place an emergency order to get through their series against the Rangers. The team has imposed a limit of 312 orders per game, a number that matches Mariners great Edgar Martinez’s lifetime average.

Pirates: 3B David Freese and C Francisco Cervelli each drove in two runs to back RHP Gerritt Cole, and the Pirates held off the Cubs 4-2 to end a four-game skid. Freese has reached base safely in 12 of his last 15 plate appearances. Cole struck out five over six innings for the Pirates, who defeated the Cubs just four times last season.

Extra innings: White Sox manager Rick Renteria put together a lineup of Avisail Garcia in right field, Leury Garcia in center and Willy Garcia in left for the series opener against the Twins, the first time in major-league history a team started three outfielders with the same last name. Brothers Felipe, Matty and Jesus Alou all appeared for the Giants in three games in September of 1963, but they never started together. ... Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a sore right calf. He was hurt in Thursday’s game.
