O’s-Yanks game postponed; makeup twin bill July 9
After a two-hour delay of the first pitch with steady rain falling at Camden Yards, Thursday night’s Orioles-New York Yankees game was postponed and will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Monday, July 9.
With the Baltimore area under a flash flood watch until early Friday morning and storms coming in from the west, the game didn’t start at 7:05 p.m. as scheduled because of the threat of rain.
According to the National Weather Service, storms could dump 2 to 4 inches of rain in some areas as both thunderstorms and showers continue until 2 a.m.
With that in mind, the team delayed the start of the game so as not to get the respective starting pitchers — Andrew Cashner and Sonny Gray — warmed up without the game set to begin on time.
The Orioles have started two games in a rain delay this season, with a third postponed well before first pitch. On April 28, they had a half-hour rain delay against the Detroit Tigers before play began. On May 15, the Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies began in a delay that lasted for nearly three hours before the game was postponed.
That Phillies game was rescheduled for July 12, meaning that instead of playing six games in seven days at home entering the All-Star break that week, the Orioles will have eight games in that stretch.
Tickets and parking for Thursday’s postponed game will not be automatically honored for the July 9 doubleheader. Fans must exchange the value of their tickets and parking from Thursday’s game at the Oriole Park box office toward any remaining home game this season, including the July 9 doubleheader, based on availability.
Fans who purchased tickets on StubHub for Thursday’s game will need to contact StubHub regarding its policy for postponed events.
Fans holding tickets for the originally scheduled 7:05 p.m. game on July 9, should use those tickets for both games of the doubleheader.
All ballpark gates will open at 3 p.m., and parking lots will open at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on MASN and on the Orioles Radio Network, including flagship station 105.7 FM.
