A Minnesota state senator is in police custody over accusations he solicited a minor for prostitution.
Bloomington police arrested state Sen. Justin Eichorn, R- District 6, after communicating with him by posing as a 17-year-old girl. A detective arranged to meet Eichorn on Monday.
He arrived in a pickup truck and was arrested “without incident,” according to police. He received the felony charge “Soliciting Under 18-Year-Old to Practice Prostitution.”
“As a 40-year-old man, if you come to the Orange Jumpsuit District looking to have sex with someone’s child, you can expect that we are going to lock you up,” Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said. “I have always advocated stiffer penalties for these types of offenses. The recent case involving Michael Gillis who was arrested in Bloomington is a prime example of why we need stronger penalties. We need our state legislature to take this case and this type of conduct more seriously.”
The Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus called on Eichorn to resign immediately over the accusations against him.
“We are shocked by these reports and this alleged conduct demands an immediate resignation,” it wrote. “Justin has a difficult road ahead and he needs to focus on his family.”
Eichorn was one of five authors of a state bill to list “Trump Derangement Syndrome” as a mental illness. That measure defined the condition as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons that is in reaction to the policies and presidencies of President Donald J. Trump.”
“Symptoms may include Trump-induced general hysteria, which produces an inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in President Donald J. Trump’s behavior,” the bill continues.
Symptoms of Trump Derangement Syndrome mentioned in the bill include “verbal expressions of intense hostility toward President Donald J. Trump” and “overt acts of aggression and violence against anyone supporting President Donald J. Trump or anything that symbolizes President Donald J. Trump.”
Eichorn this month blamed Democrats for the state’s budget deficit, writing “Minnesota Democrats and Gov. Tim Walz turned an $18 billion surplus into a $6 billion deficit basically over night.”
“They are now trying to blame President Trump,” he said. “Don’t buy it. It’s a Democrat deficit.”
