No. 2 Glenelg was put in an unfamiliar situation Monday, as it faced a one-goal deficit against No. 4 Marriotts Ridge with about 21 minutes left in regulation.
The top seeded Gladiators (17-0) had rarely trailed in any game this season, but they stuck with their game plan and came back to score three unanswered goals in an 8-6 victory over the Mustangs (13-4) in a Class 3A-2A South girls lacrosse semifinal.
“We said it in the beginning of the year it is states or bust with this group. That is what we’re going after,” Glenelg assistant coach Alex Pagnotta said. “I just think [Marriotts Ridge] came out and played a really good game. They were aggressive. We were tight. We had people going down left and right, and had to make changes. Different girls stepped up, but I was just confident in the work ethic.”

A pop-up by Archbishop Spalding’s Jordan Johnson fell in the bottom of the second inning, and the Cavaliers appeared to have taken a three-run lead. The call was overturned on interference on the Spalding runner, which negated two runs and ended the inning.
John Carroll advanced to today’s final against Mount de Sales. The Patriots are aiming for their first A Conference title.
