Mariners: Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who leads the majors in homers with 32, said Friday he will participate in next month’s Home Run Derby. The derby will be held on July 14, the night before the All-Star Game, at Truist Park in Atlanta. It’s the first derby appearance for the 28-year-old known as Big Dumper. This season, Raleigh became the first catcher and first switch-hitter to reach 30 homers before the All-Star break. “I’m excited to represent the Mariners and our fanbase,” Raleigh said in a statement. “It will be extra special for me getting to do it in Atlanta, where I spent a lot of time playing baseball as a kid.” No catcher has ever won the Home Run Derby, which began in 1985. Raleigh becomes the eighth Seattle player to compete in the derby, joining Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez along with Jay Buhner, Alex Rodriguez, Bret Boone, Robinson Canó and current teammate Julio Rodríguez. Griffey won the event in 1994, 1998 and 1999, and in 1993, he became the only player to hit the B&O Warehouse at Camden Yards on the fly. Entering Friday, Raleigh was batting .275 with 69 RBIs, 15 doubles and 47 walks in 79 games.

Giants: The Giants have optioned right-hander Sean Hjelle to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled right-hander Carson Seymour. Hjelle was sent down late Thursday night after he allowed four runs on five hits in one inning of the Giants’ 12-5 loss to the Marlins. The 6-foot-11 reliever is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in nine appearances this season. Last Saturday, the Giants said Major League Baseball was looking into allegations of abuse made by Hjelle’s wife on social media.

Mets: Mets pitcher Griffin Canning had surgery on Friday to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the season and possibly part of 2026. Canning was injured during Thursday night’s 4-0 win over the Braves while coming off the mound to field a grounder. Signed to a $4.25 million, one-year contract as a free agent in the offseason, the 29-year-old right-hander was 7-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 16 starts as he bolstered an injury-depleted rotation.

Reds: The Reds reinstated outfielder Austin Hays from 10-day injured list on Friday and placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the 10-day IL with a right shoulder sprain, retroactive to June 24. Hays was batting .303 with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 119 at-bats before being placed on the IL with a left foot contusion after fouling a pitch off his foot in a 3-2 loss at Kansas City on May 28.

Guardians: Guardians third baseman José Ramírez was not in the lineup for Friday night’s game against the Cardinals due to a bruised right forearm. Ramírez was hit by a pitch by the Blue Jays’ Kevin Gausman during the fourth inning of Thursday’s game.

Rangers: Rangers center fielder Wyatt Langford has been put on the 10-day injured list because of an oblique strain for the second time this season. Chris Young, the team’s president of baseball operations, said Friday that Langford has a “very low grade” strain. The second-year outfielder hasn’t played since Tuesday in Baltimore.
