Four men shot in Southeast Baltimore
Shooting happened as children were leaving school
Four men were shot in O’Donnell Heights in Southeast Baltimore on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Two adult men were found with gunshot wounds just before 4 p.m. in the 6200 block of Boston St., and another two arrived at a nearby hospital around the same time, said Detective Jeremy Silbert, a Baltimore Police Department spokesman.
No information about the victims’ identities or the nature of their injuries was released.
Children wearing backpacks heading home from school could be seen walking by the crime scene. Residents said the shootings happened right as school was dismissed.
Danyelle Goods, 34, who lives a few blocks away, said she heard multiple shots from inside her home around 3:45 p.m., adding, “You could tell it was close.”
She said the shootings were the first violent incident she could remember since moving to the area about four months ago.
Goods said soon after she heard gunshots, she received a call from her father asking whether her son had gotten home OK.
“This is ridiculous,” she said. “They have no remorse for children. That’s what bothers me the most.”
She added that the community has been hosting meetings with Baltimore police officers to address public safety in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The neighborhood has had an increased police presence in recent weeks, said Goods, adding that Thursday was the first day in awhile she could remember there being no police near the location of the shootings.
As police combed through evidence — ranging from a partially eaten cup of ramen noodles to discarded plastic containers — children climbed on a jungle gym at a playground a few feet from the crime scene.
On one of the walls surrounding the playground, someone had spray-painted “No Shoot Zone #90.”
Boston Street was closed in the area, and police said they expect to release more details.
