The death of 19-year-old Cameran Holt has some area residents grappling with a deep sense of fear and frustration.
The teen was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Federal Hill on Oct. 27. Holt spent nearly two weeks in shock trauma fighting for her life before succumbing to her injurIes Thursday night.
“My heart hurts. It hurts for the family, you know. It hurts for her friends that she was visiting and hurts for the community,” Federal Hill resident Jaishon Scott said.
Scott lives just a few blocks from where the innocent teen fell victim to violent crime.
A barrage of bullets, he said, woke him up in the middle of the night and have left him restless ever sense.
“Our windows were shut, so, it was that loud. I thought it was fireworks,” he said. “To hear so many gunshots so close to your home is absolutely startling. It’s unsettling, and it shouldn’t happen.”
Area residents FOX45 spoke with said the shooting is a stark reminder THAT violence in Baltimore City often strikes without warning, causing them to question their own safety.
“She was in the wrong place at the wrong time minding her own business,” Federal Hill resident Darrin Stewart said. “Innocent people are becoming targets and it’s just not necessary.”
“You start to take a second guess, wondering if this is the place I should be,” Scott said. “Does the city really care enough about their residents to take care of them?”
