The popular Cinemark Columbia Snowden and ScreenX movie theater shut its doors last month and will reopen for moviegoers Friday as Phoenix Theatres Columbia Snowden 14 + ScreenX.

“Phoenix Theatres is proud to keep the Columbia Snowden 14 + SCREENX Theatre open for its past patrons who have been loyal customers for several decades. Too many theatres have closed in the past few years and left towns without a movie theatre for their community,” Phil Zacheretti, president and CEO of Phoenix Theatres Entertainment, said in a Monday news release.

Before Knoxville, Tennessee-based Phoenix Theatres Entertainment took over the theater, it was owned by Cinemark, which replaced Regal Cinema in 2023.

According to the theater’s website, Cinemark gift cards will be honored at the new theater. However, Phoenix Theatres won’t be able to tell how much value is left on the cards, Zacheretti said, so staff will work with customers on a solution to get them into the movie as they come in. Customers can visit the Cinemark website for more information regarding gift cards.

The theater, on Commerce Center Drive in Columbia, will continue to feature the immersive experience of ScreenX in one of the auditoriums, according to the release. The multi-projection system uses three screens to project a film onto the auditorium’s walls as well, creating a 270-degree field of view. Each auditorium includes electric recliner seats with the ability to reserve seats online.

Following its reopening, the movie theater will offer several deals, including $5 tickets for every seat, movie and showtime on Tuesdays, the release said. The “Bargain Tuesday $5 Special” does not include upcharges for special events, 3D, ScreenX or online booking.

From June 24 to Aug. 28, two different movies rated G or PG will be free for all customers at 10 a.m. every Tuesday through Thursday. Day cares, summer camps and individuals are encouraged to attend the free movies and can receive as many tickets as needed when arriving at the theater.

Phoenix Theatres is also offering the 2025 Annual Popcorn Bucket, which will cost customers $4.99 per visit for unlimited refills through the end of the year after purchasing the bucket for $14.99. Other snacks and treats such as popcorn, chicken tenders, french fries, candy, nachos, soda and frozen beverages will be available.

The reopening of the movie theater means that Phoenix Theatres joins AMC Columbia 14 at The Mall in Columbia to again offer two movie theaters in Howard County.
