RED SOX: In his final exhibition tuneup, LHP Chris Sale was knocked off the mound by a line drive off the bat of the Astros’ J.D. Davis on Saturday in Fort Meyers, Fla. Sale suffered a bruised left hip. Sale said the injury wouldn’t jeopardize his opening-day start Thursday against the Rays. ... The Red Sox traded INF DevenMarrero to the Diamondbacks for a player to be named or cash. ... C Christian Vazquez and the team agreed on a contract that takes him through the 2021 season.
RANGERS: Minor-league coach and former big-league slugger Howard Johnson, 57, was hit in the face by a line drive hit by the Indians’ Eric Gonzalez and was taken from the dugout on a stretcher in Surprise, Ariz. Johnson was taken to a hospital. Team officials said he was resting comfortably. ... The Rangers cut RHP Bartolo Colon, 44. Colon made five starts in spring training and had a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings.
