The day morphed from rain to drizzle to partly sunny skies. But none of that deterred an estimated 4,500 folks from turning out to The Legacy Chase. They roamed the hillside above the Shawan Downs course, perhaps stopping by one of the railside boxes, four corporate tents or the VIP tent, to see and be seen. Oh, and there were six steeplechases running throughout the afternoon.
“It’s really exciting to see all the people come out despite the weather,” noted Blake Sheehan, event co-chair.
Justin Batoff usually experiences the races as a rider. Batoff enjoyed the day from the other side of the fence since his most recent horse retired this year.
“Watching from the hill reaffirmed that I’m not ready to hang up my boots just yet. But until I find my next prospect, I can certainly enjoy the view,” he said.
Proceeds from The Legacy Chase benefit The Land Preservation Trust.
