Chandra Smith, Ms. Wheelchair America, visits The League for People with Disabilities with the message that everyone should “Use Your Voice” to be advocates. Surrounding her, from left, are Tasha Brown, Angela Banks, Rosemarie DeShields and Erica Conway. Smith, 36, of Pasadena, is an IT engineer for the Defense Intelligence Agency. She became a triple amputee two years ago after suffering multi-organ failure, followed by sepsis and a stroke that kept her hospitalized for a year. Smith embraces her new role to be a champion for the 64 million Americans living with disabilities.
