Shamonda Braithwaite’s style is all about work versus play.

Monday through Friday, the 40-year-old Bowie resident works on policy issues — looking at data for hospitals as it relates to quality and performance — in her job as director of policy and data analytics for the Maryland Hospital Association.

“During the week, I’m a little more buttoned up. I like to be a little bit more pencil skirty, versus on the weekend [when] I like to be more boho and flowy,” she said.

As Braithwaite shopped her closet for the outfit to wear to the American Cancer Society’s “19th Annual Taste for Life,” she came across a frock she’d purchased a while ago.

“I call it my Big Bird dress. I tried it on and said, ‘I am not taking this off,’?” she said.

But it’s the accessorizing process that followed that made her style stand out.

“I think that belt is really doing the work. The dress on the rack looks like a sack. When I cinched it, the ruffles fell right,” she said.

While she normally wouldn’t have combined a statement necklace with blingy earrings, in this particular case it worked.
