DIAMONDBACKS: RHP Zack Greinke’s start against the Reds ended after one inning because of right groin tightness. Greinke was scheduled to throw five innings. He retired Ben Revere on a groundout, allowed Jesse Winker’s single, then struck out Joey Votto and Scooter Gennett.

CARDINALS: INF Matt Carpenter hit a two-run, wind-aided home run off Justin Verlander in a 3-1 win over the Astros in his second spring game after he was sidelined by a back strain. “Great at-bats,” manager Mike Matheny said. “Happy to see where he is right now.”

RED SOX: LHP Chris Sale pitched five shutout innings of two-hit ball and struck out seven, lowering his spring ERA to 1.00. Mitch Moreland homered in the third off Tyler Duffey in a 2-1 win over the Twins.

DODGERS: The team renewed the contracts of 2017 NL Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger for $585,000 and of 2016 NL Rookie of the Year Corey Seager for $605,000. Bellinger hit .267 with an NL rookie-record 39 homers and 97 RBIs. Seager hit .295 with 22 homers and 77 RBIs.

MARLINS: INF Martin Prado will begin the season on the disabled list while he recovers from right knee surgery. Hamstring and knee injuries limited Prado to 37 games last year, and while he has been working out, he has yet to play in spring training.

EXTRA INNINGS: Mets 3B David Wright said he hopes to start baseball workouts in May after a setback because of back and shoulder issues. ... OF Kyle Schwarber has a $604,500 salary as part of the one-year contract the Cubs announced last weekend. ...
