Christina Milian, the actor and Grammy-nominated singer, has joined the cast of Starz’s “Step Up” series, taking over the role originally played by Naya Rivera, who died in July.

“I am so excited to join the ‘Step Up’ family,” said Milian in a statement. “I know I have massive shoes to fill. Naya was incredible. I hope to honor Naya, her family, friends and fans with a great performance.”

Milian will play Collette, the character Rivera originated in the series’s first two seasons as a YouTube original scripted show.

Starz acquired the series, inspired by the popular “Step Up” dance franchise, in May. Filming for a third season began in Atlanta this month.

The previous two seasons will be available on Starz’s platforms, and episodes will air on Starz on Fridays, with both beginning March 5.

‘Mank’ leads Critics’ Choice Award nods: Streaming services dominated the nominations for the 26th Critics’ Choice Awards, with Netflix garnering four best picture nominations — a record-setting number for any studio in the history of the CCA — for “Da 5 Bloods,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Mank” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

David Fincher’s “Mank” led the field with 12 nominations, including best picture, director, actor for Gary Oldman and supporting actress for Amanda Seyfried.

Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari,” the semiautobiographical tale of a Korean family moving to Arkansas in the 1980s, was second with 10 nominations, including best picture, foreign language film, actor for Steven Yeun and supporting actress for Yuh-Jung Youn.

George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” landed eight mentions, while Universal Pictures’ “News of the World,” from director and co-writer Paul Greengrass, garnered seven.

With a nod for supporting actress for “The Father,” Olivia Colman is the only person recognized for their work in both film and television. Colman was also nominated for best actress in a drama series for “The Crown.”

The Critics’ Choice Awards will air on The CW on March 7.
