A 27-year-old man was shot in Baltimore on Friday, the first day of the city’s first Ceasefire weekend of 2019

Officers were called to an area hospital for a report of a walk-in shooting victim just after 10 a.m. The victim later died from his injuries.

Police said they believe the victim was shot in the 1800 block of Edmondson Ave., in the city’s Harlem Park neighborhood.

The quarterly Baltimore Ceasefire campaign, which launched in August 2017, urges a 72-hour period without any killings.

The first ceasefire of the year runs Friday to Sunday. Organizers will hold peace vigils, prayer walks, happy hours and other events dedicated to promoting nonviolence.

Launched by Erricka Bridgeford, the ceasefire operates under the slogan "Nobody kill anybody."

This weekend’s event comes after Baltimore saw 25 homicides in the first month of 2019.

There were 309 homicides in Baltimore in 2018 — marking the fourth consecutive year the city saw more than 300 killings.
