Anne Arundel County Public Schools named 75 public school teachers nominated for the county’s 2025 teacher of the year award Oct. 18.

The nominees will be honored by the Education Foundation of AACPS at the 39th Excellence in Education awards on April 25 where a winner will be revealed.

Elizabeth Heist, a music teacher at Lake Shore Elementary School won Anne Arundel county’s teacher of the year in 2024.

The winner will represent Anne Arundel County in the Maryland State 2025 Teacher of the Year competition next fall.

Over the past eight years, three Anne Arundel teachers have been named Maryland Teacher of the Year: Mary Kay Connerton of Annapolis High School in 2023, Teresa Beilstein of South Shore Elementary School in 2020 and Josh Carroll of South River High School in 2018.

45 of the nominees teach at the elementary level, 14 at middle schools and 12 at high schools. Several teachers from specialty schools are also nominated, Monarch Academy Annapolis, West Meade Early Education Center, Center of Applied Technology North and Center of Applied Technology South.A full list of nominees can be found on the AACPS website.

In addition to the public and charter school nominees, two nominees are from independent schools: Susan Giunta of St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Gillian Moore of St. Mary’s Elementary School.
