A residential construction site in Baltimore Peninsula caught fire Monday morning, according to fire officials, who said there were no injuries.

The four-story building being set up off East Cromwell Street and West Peninsula Drive, part of the Locke Landing development, was fully involved in the fire, the Baltimore City Fire Department said on the social media platform X.

The construction crew self-evacuated, and no injuries were reported, the fire department said.

The fire was contained around 11 a.m., and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. The residential building is part of a development on a 26-acre property on the peninsula formerly known as Port Covington, which used to be home to the Locke Insulators manufacturing plant.

More than 380 new town homes are expected to be built on the site by developers DRB Homes and K. Hovnanian, as well as a 420-unit apartment building under construction by the real estate giant Greystar.

The under-construction residences that caught fire Monday appeared to be part of K. Hovnanian’s build.

Chris McGrath, president of that homebuilder’s Mid-Atlantic Division, said in a statement Monday afternoon that the firm was “in the process of evaluating the extent of the damage and root causes.”

The company has already listed some of its Locke Landing units, which start at just under $448,000, on its website for prospective buyers.

“The fire inspector will have our full cooperation,” McGrath said, noting there were no injuries and adding that the company’s “biggest concern is our impacted customers who we have been in touch with.”
