Cubs: Matt Szczur hit two home runs and the team with the best record in the majors won its 11th straight, a 13-2 pounding of Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Willson Contreras hit a three-run home run to cap a five-run second, and Javier Baez and Jorge Soler also went deep to make things easy for Jake Arrieta (14-5).

Twins: LHP Tommy Milone was placed on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his left biceps muscle. Milone gave up five runs in three innings in an emergency start in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday. LHP Pat Dean was recalled from Triple-A Rochester for bullpen reinforcement.

Indians: DH Carlos Santana did not play against the Angels, a day after suffering a bruise on the right side of his head when he was hit by a foul ball in the dugout. Manager Terry Francona said Santana was doing better but would be monitored for concussion symptoms.

Rockies: 1B Mark Reynolds was placed on the 15-day DL with a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Reynolds was injured swinging the bat during a 12-9 win over the Rangers on Thursday. Also, the Rockies designated RHP Gonzalez Germen for assignment, promoted RH reliever Matt Carasiti from Triple A and recalled infielder Ben Paulsen from Triple A.

Cardinals: Matt Holliday will have his broken right thumb re-examined early next week, then he and the team doctors will decide on treatments including surgery or letting the injury heal on its own, GM John Mozeliak said. Holliday is out indefinitely after getting hit by a pitch in the Cardinals' 4-3, 11-inning loss to the Cubs on Thursday night.

Nationals: RF Bryce Harper missed his fourth straight game with a neck injury. Manager Dusty Baker said Harper was slated to see a chiropractor, noting that the All-Star's condition has improved. GM Mike Rizzo denied a report that Harper has been playing through injury for much of the season.

Extra innings: Luis Severino's return to the minor leagues was brief. Two days after optioning the RHP to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees recalled the 22-year-old from the Triple-A farm team and said he would start the series finale Sunday against the Rays. To make room, RHP Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day DL with a right elbow tendon injury. ... The Mets sent OF Michael Conforto to the minors for a second time this season. He was replaced by RHP Seth Lugo, whom the Mets brought in as insurance for Jonathon Niese.
