Astros: Ronel Blanco had the second hitless outing of his brief major league career but was pulled after seven innings as the Astros beat the Tigers 4-1 on Sunday. Manager Joe Espada shared part of the conversation he had with Blanco when he removed the dominant right-hander from the game. “I just told him how proud I am of what he’s doing,” Espada said. “This is a guy that came out of nowhere and he continues to perform at a high level. He has really picked his team up through injuries and he goes out there and he does things we need him to do.” Blanco (7-2), who threw the only no-hitter in the majors this season on April 1 against Toronto, was just as good this time in the 20th start and 37th appearance of his career. The 30-year-old threw 94 pitches with 65 strikes and tied a season best with eight strikeouts. He walked three. “I was just attacking the strike zone,” he said through an interpreter. Ryan Pressly replaced Blanco to start the eighth and gave up the Tigers’ first hit, a two-out single by Wenceel Pérez.

Rockies, Pirates: Jared Triolo had two hits and two RBIs, Jason Delay had a three-run double, and the Pirates beat the Rockies 8-2 on Sunday. Pirates left fielder Bryan Reynolds singled in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest active streak in the majors.

Blue Jays: Daulton Varsho hit his third career grand slam, Ernie Clement added a two-run home run and the Blue Jays held on to beat the Guardians 7-6 on Sunday. José Berríos pitched six innings to end a four-start winless streak as the Blue Jays took two of three from the AL Central leaders.

Twins: Carlos Correa continued his offensive tear with two home runs as part of a three-hit day, and the Twins cruised past the Athletics 6-2 on Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Reds: Willy Adames hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Blake Perkins threw out a runner at the plate to end the game and preserve the Brewers’ 5-4 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

Mets: Mets players lined up in the infield to exchange hugs, high-fives and handshakes after their first series sweep of the Padres in 16 years. Two weeks after a low point in what seemed like a lost season, the Mets headed to Texas bunched among nine teams chasing the NL’s final two wild cards, all within two games of each other. “I thought we always were in the postseason race. It’s just some people had us out,” Francisco Lindor said after an anxiety-inducing 11-6 victory Sunday.

Phillies: The Phillies expect to have star shortstop Trea Turner back Monday, according to manager Rob Thomson. Thomson said Sunday that Turner would be activated the following day “unless something weird happens.” He hasn’t played since May 3 because of a left hamstring strain.

Mariners: Logan Gilbert struck out nine and gave up two hits over eight innings and the Mariners beat the Rangers 5-0 on Sunday to sweep the series. Rookie Tyler Locklear hit a solo home run to help back Gilbert (4-4) and help the Mariners improve to 12 games over .500. The Mariners have won seven of eight games and nine straight home series.

Giants: Jorge Soler hit a three-run homer in the Giants’ nine-run fourth and they beat the Angels 13-6 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. The Giants’ struggling bats woke up in big fashion in the fourth inning to turn a 2-0 deficit into a big lead.
