Generals take charge against Lansdowne in region opener
North County girls win on free throw with 1.7 seconds left; Broadneck moves on

Towson’s Derrick Shoats (14 points), Hammond Dugan (13) and Ben Boas (11) led the Generals to a 58-53 victory over host Lansdowne (13-8) in Class 3A North Region playoff action on Friday night.
Boas, playing in his first varsity game after being promoted from the junior varsity, hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Towson (10-13).
The Vikings were led by Teddy Wilson (13) and Tayvon Williams (12).
No. 13 C. Milton Wright 79, Patapsco 45: Imran Husain scored 12 points to lead the host Mustangs (19-4) past the Patriots (1-17) in Class 3A North Section II. C.M. Wright led 49-16 in the first half.
Ben Franklin 66, Reginald F. Lewis 56: Cameron Miller had his fourth triple-double of the season (17 points, 25 rebounds and 10 blocks) to lead the host Bayhawks (15-7) past the Falcons (2-13) in Class 1A North Section II. Sam Wise had 16 points for Ben Franklin.
Magruder 72, Manchester Valley 67, OT: The visiting Mavericks (5-18) forced overtime but were outscored 12-7 in the extra session in Class 3A West Section I.
South River 52, Leonardtown 32: Eric Sondberg scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Seahawks past the host Raiders.
South River (8-15) will travel to Annapolis for a 6 p.m. section semifinal on Monday.
Kobe Denton added 14 points and Jeremy Gillespie scored five points and had eight assists for South River.
Francis Scott Key 66, Boonsboro 53: The host Eagles (10-13) did enough to break down the Warriors’ 3-2 zone and post a victory at Beard Gymnasium, winning their Class 1A West Section II.
Josh Brown and Amir Cole, Francis Scott Key’s senior backcourt mates, combined for 42 points. Cole led the Eagles (10-13) with 22 points and Brown scored 20 while Noah Vipond, a junior forward, scored 17.
The Warriors (0-23) trailed by two points early in the fourth quarter.

Glenelg 67, Hammond 37: The host Gladiators (13-10) used a third-quarter surge to beat the Bears (7-16) in Class 2A South Section I.
Ryan Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Glenelg.

Atholton 66, Long Reach 60: Justin Oates (8 points) delivered three blocks, Casey Parkins (19 points) hit a key layup in transition and the duo of Maxwell Murray (10 points) and Phillip Mitchell combined to sink three foul shots — all within the final minute — to help the host Raiders (12-10) pull away from the Lightning (7-16) in Class 3A East Section I.

Girls
North County 55, Arundel 54: Kyleigh McQuade scored the last of her 18 points by hitting a free throw with 1.7 seconds left, as the host Knights (12-11) beat the Wildcats (6-16).
North County will play at Anne Arundel County champion No. 11 Old Mill at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the section semifinals.
Broadneck 69, Annapolis 38: Ty Washington had a game-high 13 points to go with five steals as the Bruins defeated the Panthers. Khalia Turner added 12 points and Julia Tucker had nine points and six rebounds. Lacey Hinkle added six steals and six assists for Broadneck (12-9).
Broadneck will play at South River at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a section semifinal.
Isabella Papaleonti had 13 points for Annapolis (2-20).
Smithsburg 63, Francis Scott Key 35: The visiting Eagles couldn’t keep up with the Leopards and finished the season at 6-16 in Class 1A West Section II quarterfinal. Bailey Mathias had 17 points, and Karla Stonesifer scored eight.
Liberty 50, Century 43: The visiting Lions (3-20) used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to beat the Knights (9-15) in Class 2A West Section I. Liberty will face host Oakdale in a sectional semifinal on Tuesday.
