Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Monday that he discussed Pete Rose with President Donald Trump at a meeting two weeks ago and he plans to rule on a request to end the sport’s permanent ban of the career hits leader, who died in September.

Manfred is considering a petition to have Rose posthumously removed from MLB’s permanently ineligible list so that he can be considered for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Colleges: The Trump administration says the University of Pennsylvania illegally denied women equal opportunities by letting a transgender swimmer compete on the school’s women’s team and into team facilities. The administration’s statement doesn’t name Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer who last competed for the Ivy League school in 2022. But the investigation opened in February by the U.S. Education Department focused on Thomas. The department wants Penn to strip Thomas of any awards and apologize to female swimmers.

NBA: The Warriors’ Stephen Curry was voted the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year by his peers.

NFL: The District of Columbia and the Commanders reached an agreement to construct a new home for the team in Washington on the site of the old RFK Stadium. The project will cost the team and city nearly $4 billion, with the Commanders paying $2.7 billion. The team played at RFK Stadium from 1961-96 before moving to Maryland.

NHL: Aaron Ekblad and Seth Jones scored 11 seconds apart in the third and the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers beat the visiting Lightning 4-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the first-round Eastern Conference playoff series. ... Leon Draisaitl scored on a power play at 18:18 of OT and the Oilers beat the Kings 4-3 on Sunday to tie the West playoff series.
