The Anne Arundel County Police Department will activate three speed cameras in three non-school-zone locations around the county today, according to a news release, bringing the total number of speed cameras in the county to 23.
Automated enforcement cameras will begin tagging speeding drivers at the following locations:
The 4700 block of Sands Road in Harwood
The 2200 block of Johns Hopkins Road in Crofton
The 400 block of Queenstown Road in Severn
While cameras at these locations are scheduled to activate Saturday, citations won’t be issued until the end of a 15-day warning period. Most of the speed cameras are located on roads near schools.
Before Thursday’s announcement, only two of the 23 total cameras were “neighborhood cameras,” according to the list of active cameras on the APD website. The three additional cameras bring that number up to five. The website lists four additional elementary schools set for camera installation including Belle Grove Elementary School in Brooklyn Park, Central Elementary School in Edgewater, Davidsonville Elementary School in Davidsonville and Tracy’s Elementary School in Tracys Landing near Deale. No date is listed for when these cameras will be installed.
