Capitals defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk was suspended two games for charging Kings defenseman Kevin Gravel.

The NHL announced the suspension Sunday about six hours before the Capitals were to play the Ducks. Shattenkirk missed that game and will sit out Tuesday against the Wild.

With 4 minutes, 3 seconds remaining in Saturday night’s game, Shattenkirk, who has no disciplinary history with the league, drew a minor penalty when he left his feet to hit Gravel behind the net.

As a first-time offender under the labor agreement, Shattenkirk will lose $47,222 in salary.

G Corey Crawford made a season-high 42 saves to help the host Blackhawks beat the Wild 4-2 despite being outshot by 22. RW Patrick Kane’s goal gave him 30 for the second season in a row. The win pulled the Hawks within a point of the Wild, who are first in the Central Division and Western Conference.
