MIDWEST REGION

(1) Kansas (29-7) vs.

(5) Clemson (25-9)

7:07 p.m., CBS

The Tigers feature balanced scoring, with guard Gabe DeVoe the top 3-point threat. Clemson ranks 18th nationally in field-goal percentage defense (40.4). Kansas big man Udoka Azubuike is “full speed” according to Bill Self — good news for the Jayhawks, who weren’t sharp in victories over Penn and Seton Hall.

(2) Duke (28-7) vs.

(11) Syracuse (23-13)

9:37 p.m., CBS

Jim Boeheim, 73, and Mike Krzyzewski, 71, have combined to win more than 2,000 games. Have they morphed into one defensive philosophy? Since mid-February, the Blue Devils have played primarily a 2-3 zone, seemingly borrowing a page from the Orange. It worked against Syracuse; Duke won the regular-season meeting 60-44.

EAST REGION

(1) Villanova (32-4) vs.

(5) West Virginia (26-10)

7:27 p.m., TBS

Perhaps college basketball’s best overall guard, Jalen Brunson of Villanova, will lock horns with perhaps the nation’s best backcourt defender in West Virginia’s Jevon Carter. The Wildcats offense will have to deal with the Mountaineers’ press, but Villanova ranks in the top 15 in lowest turnover percentage.

(2) Purdue (30-6) vs.

(3) Texas Tech (26-9)

9:57 p.m., TBS

Purdue pulled out a hard-fought victory over Butler in the second round without center Isaac Haas (elbow). Backup Matt Haarms gave the Boilers good minutes, especially on defense. The Red Raiders, in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005, are one of the top remaining defensive teams.
