Melania Trump, the wife of former President Donald Trump, revealed her take on abortion and reproductive rights in her new memoir, “Melania.”

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” she wrote in her upcoming book, the Guardian reported.

In a video posted on her X account, Melania Trump appeared to confirm the report by defending women’s freedom to do what they want with their bodies.

“Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard. Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth — individual freedom,” she said in the video.

Her position is in stark contrast to the Republican Party and her husband as she reportedly argues it is a “common-sense approach” that applies “to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.”

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” she is quoted as saying in her memoir, set for release Oct. 8.

She also goes on to address late-term abortion in her book, according to excerpts from the Guardian.

“It is important to note that historically, most abortions conducted during the later stages of pregnancy were the result of severe fetal abnormalities that probably would have led to the death or stillbirth of the child,” she allegedly writes. “Perhaps even the death of the mother. These cases were extremely rare and typically occurred after several consultations between the woman and her doctor. As a community, we should embrace these common-sense standards. Again, timing matters.”

Donald Trump was supportive of Roe v. Wade being overturned in 2022, saying it brought “everything back to the states where it has always belonged.”

“This is following the Constitution, and giving rights back when they should have been given long ago,” he told Fox News during an interview.

During the vice presidential debate Tuesday night as Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz sparred over policies, Trump reiterated he would veto a national abortion ban “because it is up to the states to decide based on the will of their voters (the will of the people!),” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Polling has frequently shown that a majority of Americans support some level of abortion access, and the issue has been credited with providing Democrats a big boost in the 2022 midterms, where they were able to survive predictions of a “red wave” with an unpopular President Joe Biden in office and inflation spiraling out of control.
