Colin Heacock (Boys' Latin) and Matt Rambo each had a hat trick to power the No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over host Penn on Tuesday.

The Terps (6-2) fell behind 2-0 early before going on a 4-0 run from 10:48 to five minutes left in the first quarter for a lead they never relinquished. Maryland led 6-3 after one quarter.

Alex Roesner (Loyola Blakefield) and Kevin McGeary got the first two goals of the second quarter as the Quakers (5-3) cut the lead to 6-5, but Maryland responded with the next three goals to make it 9-5. Penn got one back when Joe Licciardi scored with 1:29 left before halftime, but a Terps goal with just six seconds left in the half put Maryland up 10-6.

Maryland scored the only goal in the third quarter; meanwhile, Penn went nearly 24 minutes of game time without a goal before Simon Mathias got the Quakers back on the board with 7:55 left in the fourth. The Terps answered with the next two goals, just 1:13 apart, before Pat Berkery closed the scoring with a late Penn goal off a feed from Kevin McGeary.

Maryland goalie Kyle Bernlohr made 10 saves. Reed Junkin had eight for Penn.

The Terps outshot the Quakers 47-27 and have won five straight dating to March 8.

Nation men

No. 3 Brown 19, No. 6 Villanova 8: Kylor Bellistri scored four goals to lead the visiting Bears (7-0) past the Wildcats (6-2).

Brown used an 11-2 run in the first half to take control. Dylan Molloy and Henry Blynn each had a hat trick for the Bears.

Brown's defense held Wildcats attackman Jake Froccaro, the nation's leader in goals, to one goal.

No. 12 Stony Brook 16, Lehigh 6: The host Mountain Hawks (5-4) suffered their second straight loss.

The Seawolves (7-2) extended their 4-2 lead with a 6-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters. Ryan Blitzer finished with a game-high five goals for Stony Brook.

Matt Rapaso scored twice for Lehigh.

Nation women

No. 4 Syracuse 17, Connecticut 7: The host Orange (9-3) used an 11-0 run that spanned both halves to pull away from the Huskies (7-2).

Kayla Treanor finished with a game-high four goals for Syracuse. Treanor had a natural hat trick during the run, scoring with 10:06, 9:13 and 8:34 left in the first half.

“We came out prepared and focused and played a little tough at the beginning, but then we found the gaps on defense and moved the ball pretty well,” Syracuse coach Gary Gait said.

Syracuse will host No. 13 Duke at noon Sunday.
