A shooting in Cecil County that killed two people and injured two others Saturday morning was likely the result of an argument during a gathering at a residence, police said.
According to a news release from the Maryland State Police, troopers responded to the area of Chestnut Drive in Elkton around 6 a.m. for a report of a man lying in the roadway. Police said the man had been shot and was taken to Christianna Hospital for treatment, where he remains. His identity is being withheld pending investigation, police said.
Two others who were injured in the incident on Chestnut Drive were taken to area hospitals by people at the scene, police said, including 26-year-old Tamir Rasheek Davis, of New Castle, Delaware, who was pronounced dead at Christianna Hospital.
The other victim who was injured, a woman, is being treated at Union Hospital, police said. She was not identified by authorities.
A fourth victim, a man, was later found lying on the side of I-95 South, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified Monday as 26-year-old Darius Anthony Blalock, of Bear, Delaware. Police don’t yet know how Blalock got to the 107.2 mile marker from Chestnut Drive, police spokesperson Elena Russo told The Baltimore Sun Monday.
According to Russo, Davis’ cause of death was determined by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to be gunshot wounds.
According to a Monday news release, investigators believe an altercation that began inside a home on the unit block of Chestnut Drive had moved outside when someone opened fire into the assembled crowd.
State police said the investigation is ongoing and that anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Maryland State Police North East Barrack at 410-996-7800.
