Kavanagh's fourth goal gives No. 1 Irish 8-7 overtime win
No. 17 Marquette forces OT with 2 late goals; No. 1 Terps women roll, 15-6
Matt Kavanagh scored 30 seconds into overtime to lift the No. 1 Notre Dame men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over No. 17 Marquette on Wednesday.
The host Fighting Irish improved to 9-1. The Golden Eagles fell to 8-2.
Kavanagh finished with a game-high four goals. Notre Dame led 7-5 going into the fourth quarter, but Marquette scored with 13:32 and 8:51 left in regulation to force overtime.
“We all have great confidence and faith in Matt Kavanagh,” Notre Dame coach Kevin Corrigan said. “Nobody has made more big plays in his college career than he has.”
Nation women
Ronbeck scored three of the first four goals during a 15-0 Florida run. The Gators caused 10 turnovers and outshot Marquette 20-19.
Jenna Mosketti (Fallston) gave Penn State a 5-2 lead with 16:53 left in the first half before Cornell went on a 6-0 run and never trailed again.
State men
York tied the score at 1 with 10:12 left in the first quarter before Salisbury scored the next nine goals.
The game was tied at 3 after the first quarter, but Frostburg State went on a 5-2 run in the second.
Stevenson scored four goals in each of the first three quarters and six goals in the fourth.
Zoe Stukenberg (Marriotts Ridge) had a hat trick for Maryland.
Carolyn Jamison (Westminster) had four goals for UMBC.Hopkins' Dene' DiMartino won a game-high nine draws and broke the school's season and career draw records, finishing with 79 and 243, respectively.
