Maryland-based spice, seasoning and condiment distributor McCormick and Company is in talks to acquire Sauer Brands Inc. for over $1 billion, according to a Bloomberg report.

Bought by Falfurrias Capital Partners in 2019, Sauer Brands is best-known for its Duke’s brand of mayonnaise. Sauer Brands was founded in Virginia in 1887 and has more than 1,000 employees.

McCormick, which operates out of Hunt Valley, also specializes in well-known condiment brands like Frank’s Red Hot, French’s Mustard and Cholula hot sauce. McCormick purchased the latter in 2020 along with Fona International for a combined $1.5 billion.

Bloomberg reported that a deal has yet to be finalized between McCormick and Sauer and that the discussion of the sale is still ongoing.
